I enjoy the mining and trading aspects of this game, havent tried the pvp side yet as I tend to panic something awful, maybe because Im very new and the thought of losing my ship needlessly makes me cry. I have been playing for roughly one month in total and have managed to get myself a Retriever for mining. Currently I am mining Veldspar because its relatively safe. I occasionally run into Scordite, which sells for twice as much as Veldspar.

Is there a way to actually track a specific type of ore, if so how would I do that or do I have to manually fly to every belt and hope I strike it lucky?

For the most part you will need to fly to each belt and hope that you strike it lucky. However, here is a general guide that will help you know which belts to look in.

When considering which ore to mine, make sure you look at its price per volume, not price per unit. Effort in mining and hauling are both limited by volume. Scordite might sell for twice as much as veldspar, but it takes 1.5x the effort to mine it. Therefore, it is still more profitable to mine, but not a full 2x.
